My power button is flashing orange.
This indicates the press is in Connect mode. If you're using the press for the first time, this is normal as the press is waiting for you to complete the activation process at cricut.com/setup.
This can also happen if you press and hold the power button for > 5 seconds. Press and release power button to power machine off. Then, press again (do not hold) to power machine on.
Note: Connect mode is only necessary for machine activation or firmware updates.
My power button turned solid red, a sequence of LEDs flashed, and my machine shut off.
This happens when Cricut Mug Press detects an error. The sequence of LED lights can help you know what the error is.
Error | Display | Why it happens | How to resolve it |
E02 |
4th LED is on |
Occurs when machine is extremely cold when powered on. | Allow machine to adjust to room temperature and remain at room temperature for a few hours before reattempting. If condensation is visible on the machine, allow to dry before plugging in. |
E03 |
4th and 5th LEDs are on |
Can happen if blanks inserted into machine are too cold. |
1. Power Mug Press off and back on. 2. Allow blanks to come to room temperature before using in Mug Press. 3. If the issue persists, contact Member Care for assistance. |
E04 |
3rd LED is on |
Occurs when press detects an unexpected object. |
Be sure to use only compatible mug blanks that meet the recommended specifications. Unusually shaped mugs, or mugs that are filled with a liquid or other material, will prevent temperature sensors from functioning properly. Unplug Mug Press (don't just power off). Plug back in and power on. If error code persists, contact Member Care for assistance. |
E08 |
2nd LED is on |
Occurs when press detects an unexpected object or is not receiving proper voltage (i.e., machine manufactured for 110V is plugged in to 230V outlet). | Ensure you're using a compatible mug blank, and the press is being used in the region for which it was manufactured. Cricut Mug Press should not be used with a power converter. |
E09 |
2nd and 5th LEDs are on |
Occurs when power button is stuck. | You may attempt to manipulate button to correct. If this does not help, contact Member Care for assistance. |
E11 |

My LED timer does not progress past the first LED during transfer.
This indicates that the press did not recognize a mug is there. This happens when a mug is inserted into the press and lever is not pressed down completely. To resolve, lift lever and remove mug. Allow mug to cool completely, then try again. Make sure you're following stacking instructions in the Cricut Heat Guide (i.e., use recommended number of butcher paper layers for marker projects).
How do I clean my Cricut Mug Press heat plate?
- Before cleaning press, unplug and cool completely
- Clean with a soft cloth and glass cleaner or water
- Apply glass cleaner or water to cloth — do not spray directly on, or submerge press
- Never use flammable liquid or solvents like acetone or nail polish remover
If ink from marker projects bleeds onto heat plate, clean as directed above. If this does not help, continue to wrap mug with butcher paper as directed in Cricut Heat Guide to prevent transferring onto furture projects.
