Design Space Release Notes

This Design Space for Desktop Beta release (v8.58) includes the following features and fixes.

Note: This section will be updated when this release goes to production.

 

New Product Setup – Test Cut Updates

The test cut portion of New Product Setup has been updated for Cricut Maker 3, Cricut Explore 3, Cricut Joy Xtra, and Cricut Joy machines. It now introduces the Canvas and allows for customization.

Note: Currently, this update is available only when the Design Space language is set to “English.”

 

Connection Help Updates

As part of the connection improvements we are making, additional messaging now appears during machine connection on the cut screen.

Selecting “Click here” brings the user to this screen:

Upon selecting connection type, users are directed to connection instructions and troubleshooting tips. Clicking “Continue” sends users back to the cut screen to continue making their project.

 

Project Type Display

This feature causes the project type to be displayed near the project title on the Canvas.

• Setting button is disabled when searched with keyword “Mature” and “Mat”
• Product setup – Stuck at Cut in progress
• The “See More” links for project search are not filtering the search results
• Image Uploads – the message, “Invalid namespace found for the following elements” should be more user-friendly

• Profile not loading from Notification -> Project Details Page when we are in another Profile
• Black outline line observed on the image when opening a project on Desktop (that was previously saved on iOS)

Patterns Updates

Users can now delete their personally uploaded pattern fills! When you mouse over one of your uploaded pattern tiles a trash can icon will appear; simply click that icon and confirm you wish to delete the pattern.

Note: Deleting a Pattern removes the pattern from your pattern library; if you only wish to remove the pattern fill from your shape on the Canvas, select the Print type drop down and select a color for your shape instead, or choose a different Operation for your shape.

Additionally, Pattern tile size has been increased so the tiles now show the whole pattern instead of only part of the pattern.

Print Then Cut Improvement

This change makes the cut sensor markings (corner fiducials) automatically adjust closer to the image when on the cut screen.

New Tabbed Layout for Universal Search

With this update you can easily toggle back and forth between types of content (Images, Projects, Fonts, Profiles) when you execute a search from the Home page, instead of having to navigate in and out of unique pages.

Complexity warnings

To help users understand when the complexity of their design may start to impact Canvas performance, we have added a warning in the Layers panel that provides information about the issue, and general recommendations for simplifying the layer or group in question. Complexity can result from a high number of elements on the Canvas, or layers (such as some uploaded images) that have a very high number of nodes in their path data.

Note: This is a warning only; it does not prevent users from proceeding to make the project, but it may take time for the Canvas to process actions when the project is very complex.

 

Improved Address Validation

This update improves the way we manage address validation on the backend.

Explore Related Images in the Image Panel

We’ve made it easier than ever to find the perfect image for your project! Now, when browsing the Image Panel in Design Space, you'll see recommendations for related images based on your selections. This feature helps you quickly discover images that complement your chosen style or theme, sparking new ideas and creativity.

How to Use the Related Images Feature:

1. Open the Image Panel: Navigate to the Image Panel to begin your search for project images.
   
   
   
2. Select an Image: Choose any image that catches your eye.
3. View Related Images: Once selected, Design Space will automatically suggest related images, offering new options that align with your chosen design.
   
   
   
   
4. Dive Deeper: Want more options? Click "View All" to explore a broader set of recommendations. You can continue to do this, exploring more and more related images, creating a fun "rabbit hole" experience until you find exactly what you’re looking for.
   
      
   
   

Print Then Cut calibration sheet standardized across platforms

Before, the Print Then Cut calibration sheet would be slightly different sizes depending on which platform it was printed from. This update corrects those differences, making the calibration sheet the same across all platforms. This standardized sheet now contains a version number, and the letters along the right of the page have been shifted a little to the left.

Note: There are no functionality changes; if you’ve already printed the current version of the calibration sheet, it still works.

Destination page update

Now, when a video tile is included with other tiles on a destination page, the video will be displayed across the full tile.

 

Separate Cricut Explore family in New Product Setup

When going through new product setup, Cricut Explore series machines will now display as separate machines so it’s easier for users to find and select the correct machine.

Adding Images and Shapes on the Canvas

We’ve made it easier to add images and shapes while working on the Canvas! Here’s how to use the new panels:

1. Open the Panels
   • On the Canvas, click the Images or Shapes icons on the left.
   • A panel will open, showing all the images or shapes you can add. 
2. Adding to Your Canvas
   • Search or browse through the panel and click on the images or shapes you want to add. They will instantly appear on your Canvas!
     
3. Accessing Your Bookmarked Images
   • In the Image Panel, you can quickly find your saved images by clicking the Bookmarked tab.
     
4. Filtering Images
   • To narrow down the images you see, use the filter icon in the top right corner of the Image Panel. This lets you customize your view and find what you need faster.
     
5. Closing the Panels
   • To close the panel, either click the icon again on the left or press the close tab on the side of the panel.
     
6. Full-Screen Search
   • For a larger view and a full filter list, click Advanced Search button at the bottom of the panel (or More Shapes, from the Shapes panel).
     
7. Phrases and Editable Images
   • Phrases and Editable Images are still available! You can now find them as filters in the Images panel instead of on the left side.
     

 

Remove Empty Groups when opening Canvas

This feature “cleans up” any empty groups, including Attach & Flatten groups, that exist in a saved project upon re-opening that project on the Canvas. Before, one could still see the group listed in the Layers panel even if all objects in the group had been removed.

This Design Space for Desktop release (v8.48) includes the following features and fixes. 

 

Tool Tips

Ever wonder what those tools in the bottom of the Layers panel can do for your design? This new feature displays a description of Layers Panel tools such as Slice, Combine tools, Attach, Flatten, and Contour when you hover over the tool with your pointer.

Improved Virtual Scroll Behavior becomes a reusable component

This improvement enables the functionality of these 'ghost' tiles to indicate that results are being loaded, which we can apply across Design Space for Desktop. Additionally, this feature retains the scroll position of images when one clicks and then returns to the Home page.

These new style filters for Images help you more easily zero in on the types of images you want for your projects. They’ll appear when you search for images from the Home page and from Canvas.

Sharing a project with mature content

This feature allows users to add mature content tags to their projects so they can share with those who are willing to see mature content.

 

Update to default view size on Canvas when opening projects

This update simplifies the project opening experience so that the Canvas will automatically zoom to a percentage that encompasses all visible content in a project.

This Design Space for Desktop release (v8.46) includes the following features and fixes.

 

Mac Sonoma – Allow Bluetooth

With newer versions of macOS, users must allow Design Space permission to use Bluetooth in order to connect to a machine via Bluetooth. New screens have been added to Product Setup when using macOS Sonoma or later to help guide users to enable this permission.

2 – When Bluetooth permission has never been requested before, this page will appear during Product Setup with instructions to press “Allow” when prompted by macOS.

Settings modal improvements

Print Then Cut – Fiducial Scan Order Update

We’ve adjusted the order in which the machine will scan for the Print Then Cut fiducials (sensor markings), which removes some long diagonal moves during the scanning process. Machines will now scan top left > top right > bottom left > bottom right during Print Then Cut Calibration as well as when making Print Then Cut projects.

This new tab in Design Space Settings lets you personalize your content preferences, ensuring that Cricut can add diverse content types while maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all users.

Product Setup Refresh

The beginning of New Product Setup has been redesigned to include two new options when there are no registered machines on an account. “Find the right machine for me” opens the Cricut website to help you choose a Cricut cutting machine. “Design without a machine” closes the product setup so you can use Design Space.

Note: You must have a machine registered to your account in order to make a project.

 

Improved Selection mechanics

The selection experience has been improved – users can now easily select an overlapping object when it is the top layer.

Over the last 6 weeks we've fixed 74 software defects, including the following priority field issues and reliability concerns:

• Changes made to the latest project are lost upon sharing.
• Draw projects are being opened as cuts instead of drawings, resulting in a color change.
• Save a project on iOS, then open it on desktop, and notice that the changes fail to appear.
• The Canvas tab disappears and it takes longer for the Canvas tab to load.
• The saved project only shows letters on the Canvas, but double-tapping the text box reveals the entire sentences.
• After finishing cutting the mat that's off-screen, the scrollbar scrolled back to the top instead of moving to the next mat.
• My Stuff doesn't show any projects, and the collection is displayed without a name.
• Follow button is not working on profile page
• Profile links that are copied and pasted shows Blank home page.
• Forever stuck on the project details page, with both the customize and make buttons greyed out.
• Print Then Cut images appear distorted or the print preview is not accurate
• Print Then Cut images did not appear correctly on the cut screen.
• The Print Then Cut quality warning message is preventing the user from proceeding to make it.
• Clicking "View All" on recent uploads either redirects to the Inspire/Discover page or results in the inability to access the full set of uploaded images.

• Users have the ability to delete uploaded images when using new Image Inspiration designs.
• When attempting to upload an image, a message indicating "unable to upload image" is displayed, prompting users to check their internet connection.
• The learning plan redirects to the Canvas instead of remaining on the home page.
• When the uploaded image is added to the Canvas, it displays an image load failure.

Tag Filters in Project Search

When searching for a project on the Discover page or Canvas page, tag filters will be shown across the top of the page. When a word or phrase is searched, Design Space will show the tags associated with the projects that are returned. Select one or more tag filters to narrow and refine your search results.

The top tags will be sorted by frequency, with the most frequently tagged item at the beginning and the least frequently tagged item at the end.

Require Test Cut for New Users

To ensure your machine is properly set up, the test cut will be required for all first-time members. When setting up a new machine type on the account, the test cut will also be required. This will ensure your machine’s firmware is up to date, it’s registered, and ready to go!
