If you are continually asked to download the Design Space plugin or any other issues related with the plugin, please follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue on a Windows or Mac computer.
Step 1 - Adding Host Entry
Select your platform below and follow the steps:
- First, check whether the Design Space program is running in the system tray. If not, relaunch the program via the desktop icon or the Programs folder.
- If the program is running in the system tray, click on the icon and select Open Tools Folder.
- In the folder that opens up, double-click on HostEntryCL.exe, and select "Yes" to allow the file to make changes.
- If the host entry file is successful, you will see the following screen indicating "Success." Close this window, refresh your browser and attempt to access Design Space again.
- If the host entry file is not successful, and you see Error on the host entry file results, please call our Member Care team for further assistance.
- If you receive a Success message but the issue persists, proceed to step 2.

- If you receive a Success message but the issue persists, proceed to step 2.
Step 2 - Clear Browser Data
Click here for instructions on clearing your browser history, cache, and cookies. Close your browser completely, then relaunch the program from the desktop icon. If you are still facing plugin issues, please proceed to step 3.
Step 3 - Update Internet Browser
This can usually be found under the “Help” or “About” option in the browser menu. Often, simply checking which version of the browser is running will automatically prompt it to search for any updates.
Once the update is complete, close the browser and relaunch the program from the desktop icon OR the Programs folder. If you are still being prompted to download the Design Space plugin, try a different browser. If the issue persists, please proceed to step 4.
Step 4 - Check Internet Speeds
Since Design Space requires back and forth communication between your system and Cricut servers, we recommend minimum internet speeds of 1.5 Mbps for download and 1.0 Mbps for upload. Speeds less than this can cause functional issues. You can quickly check your internet speeds at www.SpeedTest.net by clicking "Begin Test" on that webpage.
If your speed is lower than the recommended minimums, we recommend contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for assistance ensuring that your internet router is functioning properly and that you are receiving the speeds you signed up for. If your internet speeds meet or exceed the minimum recommendation, proceed to step 5.
Step 5 - Verify Browser Communication
You can do this by opening this link in your browser. If the browser is communicating, the page should show some results (see screenshot below).
If you do not get any results, or you get a blank page, a “web page not available” error, a request timeout, or it otherwise does not resolve the issue for you, please contact our Member Care team for further assistance.
