Firmware is essential for your Cricut machine to operate properly and communicate with your computer or mobile device. When you first set up your Cricut machine you will be guided through the steps to update your firmware if an update is needed.
After the initial setup, you will occasionally be prompted to update your firmware as new features and performance improvements are added.

Ensure that your Cricut Maker machine is powered on and connected to your computer via USB cable or Bluetooth. Learn how to pair the Bluetooth here.
-
You will receive an alert when a firmware update is necessary, whether it is during the new machine setup, or whether you are proceeding to cut your current project.
-
Your current firmware version and the required firmware version will be listed. Click Update Firmware to proceed.
- The firmware update process will begin. A progress bar will appear on the screen and your machine's power button will turn red (if connected via USB) or purple (if connected via Bluetooth), indicating that an update is in progress.

Troubleshooting firmware update problems
Losing power during a firmware update
- If you lose power during a firmware update, reopen Cricut Design Space.
- Log in to your account and select “Update Firmware” from the Account menu in the upper left corner.
- Ensure that your machine is powered on and connected to the computer with the USB cable.
- Click “Update Firmware” in the firmware update window to start the process again.
Losing connection to your machine
- If the connection to your machine is lost during a firmware update, make sure your machine is powered on and connected to your computer.
- Then click the green refresh button to start the process again.
- You may have to select your machine from the drop-down menu again before the update will proceed.
- If you are attempting to update the firmware via Bluetooth connection and the connection continues to be lost, connect via USB cable instead.
The Power button is displayed red
- During the firmware update process, you will see that the power button is red.
- This indicates that the update is in progress. If the update process is interrupted or unsuccessful, the power button will stay red and prevent you from turning your machine off.
- Restart the firmware update process. Once your machine is finished updating, it will automatically power off and back on, and you can proceed with your project.
