You’ll need to select your mat Type in Design Space to tell your Cricut cutting machine if you're using Smart Materials, a Card Mat, or a machine mat.
-
When your project is ready to send to the machine, select Make It. Design Space will ask if you’re going to load Card Mat, Smart Materials, or a machine mat.
- Choose the option you’re planning to use for your project. The load Type you choose will determine material setting options on the next screen. For example, Without Mat works only for Smart Materials, so only Smart Materials cut settings will be available on the next screen when you select Without Mat.
- Make sure what you load into the machine matches your Type selection. The machine senses length, not what you've loaded. If you select Without Mat, then load a mat into the machine, your design may not cut correctly since designs on Smart Materials can be a little wider than designs on a mat.
- If you need to change your selection, choose a new Material Load Type from the drop down on the left side of the screen.

Why is Material Load Type grayed out?
The Material Load Type menu will only give you options that are compatible with your design. If you don’t see the option you want in the Material Type drop-down return to Canvas and adjust your design size.
