Firmware Update - Cricut Explore and Maker machines

Firmware is essential for your Cricut machine to operate properly and communicate with your computer or mobile device. When you first set up your Cricut machine you will be guided through the steps to update your firmware if an update is needed. After the initial setup, you will occasionally be prompted to update your firmware as new features and performance improvements are added.

Select the link for the platform you are using with your Cricut Maker for instructions on how to complete a firmware update:

Troubleshooting firmware update problems

Losing power during a firmware update

If you lose power during a firmware update, reopen Cricut Design Space. Log in to your account and select “Update Firmware” from the Account menu in the upper left corner. Ensure that your machine is powered on and connected to the computer with the USB cable. Click “Update Firmware” in the firmware update window to start the process again.

Losing connection to your machine

If connection to your machine is lost during a firmware update, make sure your machine is powered on and connected to your computer. Then click the green refresh button to start the process again. You may have to select your machine from the drop-down menu again before the update will proceed.  If you are attempting to update the firmware via Bluetooth connection and the connection continues to be lost, connect via USB cable instead, click the green refresh button, and select your machine from the drop-down menu to proceed with the update.

Power button is displayed red

During the firmware update process, you will see that the power button is red. This indicates that the update is in progress. If the update process is interrupted or unsuccessful, the power button will stay red and prevent you from turning your machine off. Restart the firmware update process (see How to perform a firmware update manually above). Once your machine is finished updating, it will automatically power off and back on, and you can proceed with your project.
