Older Design Space Release Notes

This Design Space for Desktop release (v9.83) includes backend improvements and the following features and fixes.  

Test Cut Tooltip

New users will now see a tooltip if they haven’t performed a test cut or a real cut before, to guide them back to the test cut flow. Additionally, the ability to perform a test cut has been added permanently to the machine menu.  

 

Upload panel education

This feature is designed to provide new users with contextual guidance through the upload process; “Learn About Uploading” links and pop-ups help educate users on preparing and choosing the right images.  

 

Fonts panel education

This feature was designed to ensure new users can discover font-related tips without leaving the application, and offers all users access to education through a “Learn” link.

 

Templates panel education

This feature adds a contextual banner to help educate new users about Templates and how to use them.

 

Image panel education

This feature helps new users quickly learn best practices for using images in Design Space by showing contextual guidance as well as providing a permanent “Learn” link.  

 

Cricut Access purchase improvements

This feature adds backend functionality to prevent accidental duplicate subscriptions, especially when a user’s previous subscription has been recovered by Apple.

 

Fixed field issues

This release:

• Fixed an issue in the DTF checkout flow causing the cart to be open briefly, then close, on Home page after closing the cart on Canvas and navigating to the Home page.  
• Fixed an issue causing the firmware update screen to close in error on mat preview page.  
• 2-card card mat displaying for Cricut Maker 3 and Cricut Explore 3 machines in error has been fixed.  
• Fixed an issue in Stickers and Labels project flows causing an image to throw “Operation not supported error” and fail to auto-stickerize after applying an offset.
• Fixed an issue causing an object to be placed outside of the cuttable area upon moving it to a new mat after changing material size.  
• Fixed an issue with Create AI panel, which was causing a generated image to not be preserved on the “Generate” tab after clicking the “Saved” tab, then returning to the “Generated” tab; the tab was reverting to the description box instead.  
• Shrunken image on “Prepare workspace” step of new product setup has been fixed.
• Fixed an issue causing Text editing to be slow and unresponsive, and causing inability to move or resize text boxes
• Inability to move Text that has used Curve and Sticker, when Sticker panel is open, has been fixed.
• Fixed a project-specific issue that was causing an infinite spinner when loading the project on the mat preview.
• Fixed an issue causing Print Then Cut filtration to not work when navigating to Blank Canvas from Vinyl Decal project flow.
• Fixed an issued causing objects moved on mat preview screen to not default to the original arrangement after navigating back from the Make screen and adding project copies.
• Firmware update getting skipped on Mat preview for Cricut Explore 5 and Cricut Joy 2 has been fixed.  
• Fixed an issue causing a Font tooltip to display a localization key instead of the expected tooltip text.  
• Advanced Search missing on Blank Canvas saved projects has been fixed.

• Non-functional “Got a different press?” tile on Heat Press setup screen has been fixed.  
• Image resolution not being validated upon resizing the image has been fixed.    
• Fixed an issue causing the machine pop-up to appear automatically when navigating back to the Prepare or Make screen from Home.  
• Chatbot being unresponsive has been fixed.

• Fixed a user interface issue with Canada DTF in the new project modal.

Updated Print Setup – Use System Print Dialog

When you select Print in Design Space you’ll now use your computer’s system print dialog to choose your printer, number of copies, confirm paper size and orientation, and other settings.

Improvements to in-app notifications, banners, and content cards

This update adds functionality to the backend which allows us to supply only the in-app messaging, banners, or content cards that are relevant to a user’s actively selected machine type.

Improvement to getting-started Home page experience for new users

This update ensures that new users or users that don’t have a registered machine are routed to a Home page experience designed to help them get started in Design Space, rather than the standard Home page.  

 

Improved organization for AI styles

This update consists of improved management and organization of AI Styles within categories when any AI panel is opened, making it easier to browse and find the style you want.

AI Project Designer – Size objects in the chat

This new feature in the AI Project Designer chat allows it to generate an image based on the base material/substrate the design will be applied to. Users can provide detailed descriptions of the substrate or even provide a reference link to a website that contains details about it.

This Design Space for Desktop release (v9.78) includes backend improvements and the following features and fixes.  

Improved machine selection  

With this update, whenever machine selection is switched to a different machine, from any location in the app, the app will refresh all machine-specific UI and data, displaying only the content and functionality applicable to that specific machine type.  

 

Added support for pinned content in notification feed

This update ensures you don’t miss the most important notifications, no matter how much time . The highest priority content and most recent pinned messages will now always appear first in your notifications feed.

Background connection recovery improvements

If the background connection between the app and your machine stops unexpectedly, the app will now try to restore the connection automatically, retrying three times. If the issue continues, you’ll see a clear error messages on cut, connection, firmware, and calibration screens.

 

Improved Design Space download and installation  

Design Space now handles files like static images, fonts, and videos more efficiently during download and installation. This helps reduce download size, minimize disk space usage, and prevent unchanged files from being downloaded again.

We’ve also introduced a smarter installer that automatically detects your system type and installs the best version of Design Space for your device.

 

Update to “View Image Guide” button in Images Panel  

New users see a dismissible “Learn About Images” banner in the Images panel, and all users see this button under Filters. This button directs to an Image Guide with information about how to find images that are right for your project.

 

Simplified image searching for guided flows

To help users benefit most from the intended guided experience, “Advanced Search” functionality has been removed from the “Images” panel in guided project flows. You can continue to search and apply filters to get results appropriate for a specific guided flow.  

Note: Advanced Search will still be available when using the Blank Canvas project type.  

 

AI Project Designer - Ability to adjust cut / color complexity

When using AI Project Designer you can now select the number of layers needed to generate an image for Cut projects. This added functionality allows users to choose a complexity up to 8 layers where applicable.  

 

AI Project Designer – Add Style options

When using AI Project Designer you can now select a Style, similar to the Styles you can select in Create AI on Canvas. Styles are categorizesd a Cut, Draw, and Print Then Cut, and you can create images with multiple style within the AI Project Designer chat.

Connection recovery update

This update adds a resilient, driver-agnostic self-healing UI flow for Cricut machines that temporarily lose their connection during an active operation. When the driver detects that the device is attempting to recover, Design Space now tracks that recovery attempt in real time, provides live visual feedback to the user, and automatically escalates to the force-connection modal if the recovery takes too long or fails.  

 

Material Guide on Make screen

These new material guides on the Make screen, when clicked, show users details like how to identify materials, which side faces up, which mat to use, and how to load materials.  

 

Project instructions on Prepare and Make screens

This feature makes instructions available not just on Canvas, but also on Prepare and Make screens. A link at the top of the screens opens step-by-step and video guidance specific to the project type. This ensures users always have easy access to project instructions across their work flow in Design Space.  

 

Payment methods in Design Space

This feature is one phase of an update to the mechanism we’re using for address and payment elements in Design Space.  

 

Designable blank on Canvas

This update adds an image of a sample blank under the Design Area for certain project types, so users can design directly on an image of their final product.  

 

Smart Guides – Equal Distance

Equal Distance Smart Guides show temporary spacing markers between objects while the user is moving an object, helping them place it so the gap between neighboring objects becomes equal.  

 

Create AI Images in My Stuff

This update allows images generated through the Create AI tool (not Project Designer) to get saved under a new tab in My Stuff. Once an image is generated and added to the Canvas, the image will automatically be saved under Saved images in the Create AI tool and in a new “AI Generated” tab in My Stuff.

Connection Diagnostics and Troubleshooting Improvements

This update features backend improvements in machine connection diagnostics, as well as improved troubleshooting assistance that reflects the actual state of the Cricut machine at the time of connection failure. Design Space will now provide more specific instruction that escalates progressively as needed (i.e., each connection retry that fails advances to a more specific instruction).

 

Mat Prepare Tour

A guided tour option has been added to the Mat Prepare screen to help orient users. The guided tour will introduce key concepts about Mat Prepare, including what actions are required or possible.

 

Highlight bounding box on hover

This feature adds hover highlight functionality on the Canvas. When you hover your pointer over a group of objects, a single object, or an object within a group, that item’s bounding box will be highlighted.

 

Contextual Pre-prompts in Chatbot

Currently, pre-prompts for the chatbot are contextual. This feature introduces pre-prompts that adapt based on the user’s current screen.

Bring Project Designer chat to Canvas

This feature allows users to bring their current AI Project Designer chat to the Canvas and continue the chat experience. Once a user clicks “Edit on Canvas” to add a generated image from the chat to the Canvas, the same chat will be available in the left panel under an “AI Project Designer” tab.

This update brings improvements in speed and reconnections when updating firmware.  

 

Mat visualization in Vinyl Decal, Iron-On T-Shirt, and Folded Card project flows

A new Mat Details section has been added to the right preview panel for Vinyl Decal, Iron-On T-Shirt, and Folded Card project flows, so users can easily see how their design will cut.

 

Updated appearance of active “Combine” objects

With this update, when a “Combine”  object (i.e. Unite, Subtract, Intersect, Exclude) is active, we will retain its current color instead of temporarily reverting to the color it was when the Combine action was applied to it, but we’ll make it slightly darker with an inner shadow while it’s active.

 

Single click to access objects in a group

This improvement to object selection allows users to access objects in a group with a single click, including “Combine” objects.

 

New product setup flow – project modal navigation updates

This update to the new product setup flow streamlines the post-setup experience by navigating users directly to this modified project modal after product setup.

AI Styles added to shortcut toolbar and Effects menu

Quickly generate another style for your AI generated or uploaded image by selecting the AI tool from the shortcut toolbar or Effect menu.  

 

Auto Save + in-app message

This update adds an Auto Save feature to Design Space for Desktop! Auto Save will automatically be enabled for new projects, and we’ll display a message popup about it once per session when a change is made on the Canvas. You can enable or disable this at any time through the Save menu.

 

Template Tile badges

This update adds more descriptive information to Template tiles, such as the Cricut Access icon, indicator of whether the template is free or must be purchased, whether it is licensed, or created by a Contributing Artist, and a three-dot “more” menu.

 

Allow Bluetooth Pre-Prompt

Image Tile Badge on Canvas

We’ll now display the Contributing Artist badge on image tiles when on Canvas (like we do in other areas of Design Space) and display the label “Contributing Artist” when the pointer hovers over the badge.  

 

Resize Controls

With this update, resizing has been refined: to resize via the bounding box, user must click and drag the bounding box handles. Previously, resizing could occur if one clicked and dragged along any part of the bounding box path.

AI Project Designer Chat — Revert Image

This improvement to AI Project Designer allows users to revisit and re-edit previously generated images in the AI Project Designer chat. The Re-edit option is available only when the chat includes more than one generated image.

 

AI Project Designer — Chat History

With this update, users can view AI Project Designer chat history. Chat history is read-only, but any generated images in the chat can still be added to the Canvas.  

 

AI Project Designer —  Add multiple Images to the same Canvas

This update to AI Project Designer lets users add multiple generated images from one chat to the same Canvas (instead of a new Canvas opening each time “Edit on Canvas” is selected).

• Contributing Artists upload image details getting reset after navigating from Mat preview page has been fixed.
• Fixed an issue causing the size interstitial to not get displayed for any guided project flow after clicking back from Cardstock size interstitial.
• Fixed an issue causing Stickers & Labels project modal to show size boxes after clicking “Back” when Cricut Joy 2 machine is selected.
• Fixed an issue causing the Canvas to not get replaced with a new Canvas upon creating a New Project from the Canvas “New” button, also causing no new project types to get created after choosing them from the Home screen.
• Project type options not visible on the project selection modal when screen size is very small has been fixed.  
• Fixed an issue causing the Image panel to not open after choosing the “Blank Canvas” project, also causing no project type to get created after we manually open the Image panel.  
• Image disappearing from Canvas but remaining visible in the Layers panel after applying and reverting Contour has been fixed.  
• Fixed an issue causing “Setup machine” button to not get displayed on Mat preview screen when it should.

• Template title throwing “project unavailable” error message has been fixed.  
• DTF project flow – Pattern fill getting removed when copy/pasting pattern-filled image onto a DTF project Canvas has been fixed.  
• Footer of project selection modal getting hidden when in a smaller viewport has been fixed.
• Issue of green loader displaying continuously upon moving an image on Canvas once it has been added to the design area has been fixed.  
• Issue of checkout screen remaining blank while system fetches certain APIs has been fixed.  
• An issue causing live preview to not work has been fixed.  
• Sticker & Labels project: Mat selection being greyed out for Cricut Joy Xtra machines has been fixed.  
• Stickers & Labels project: Issue causing “Project preview could not load” message if images are partially placed outside the design area has been fixed.  
• “Connection failed” in Machine Picker - and unable to reconnect - after cancelling the new product setup has been fixed.  
• Templates panel not showing any templates – just loading ghost tiles – after saving any project with a template has been fixed.  
• Template dashboard showing empty tab name and empty column headers when in a non-English language has been fixed.  
• Issue causing “invalid design area size” message to NOT display when clicking “Make” from project details page, when design area size is not compatible with selected machine, has been fixed.
• Machine Bluetooth connection failing in new product setup flow has been fixed.
