Older Design Space Release Notes

This Design Space for Desktop release (v9.47) includes backend improvements and the following features and fixes.  

Multi-window connection management

If your machine is already connected to Design Space in one window, and you try to connect your machine in another Design Space window, you’ll see the message “Connection Already in Use.” To switch the connection to this new window, click Continue. Your machine will automatically disconnect from the previous window.

 

Chatbot bubble placement

We’ve adjusted Chatbot so it will remain in the bottom right corner of the screen and is no longer movable. When needed, it will move up or left to not overlap any buttons.  

 

Layers panel update

With this update, users can select multiple layers in the Layers panel and drag and drop them to the top, bottom, middle, or any other position in the list, with one exception: Users cannot drag and drop layers into a Sticker layer. However, any objects within a Sticker layer may be dragged and dropped outside of the Sticker group.  

 

Fixed field issues

This release:

• New product setup project modal not filtering tools based on machine has been fixed.  
• Fixed an issue causing the Connection troubleshooting option to show even when the same machine connection is changed from USB to Bluetooth or vice versa.  
• The applied color not being highlighted on the color palette has been resolved.  
• Fixed an issue with USB connected machines being unable to reconnect to Design Space if powered on after Design Space is opened.  
• Fixed an issue with machine picker where if no devices are found when Design Space launches, it doesn’t “refresh”.  
• Fixed issue of making a project becoming unrecoverable if connection is lost on the Make screen.  
• Bluetooth disable dialog showing when connecting to a machine on a second window has been fixed.  
• Issue of adding an image to a new Collection while uploading causes an empty Collection to be created has been fixed.  
• Fixed an issue with card project where a Draw image appears incorrect on Make screen.  
• Fixed some issues related to Print Then Cut Calibration.  
• Fixed a Print Then Cut issue where the print image was appearing too small in the preview.
• Fixed an issue with some Explore machines not recognizing when Cardstock is selected.

• Reopening a saved sticker project throwing an “Operations not supported” modal after saving project has been fixed.  
• Changing a Template only giving option to “Save As” instead of both “Save” and “Save As” options has been fixed.
• Single-layer uploaded images not showing properly on Canvas has been fixed.  
• Checkout button getting enabled instead of Continue button on Mat preview screen has been fixed.  
• Fixed an issue causing live preview to not work.  
• Moving objects on mat preview and switching to Card Mat causing objects to be placed outside the cuttable area has been fixed.  
• Pattern fill getting distorted after slicing an object has been fixed.  
• Fixed an issue causing inability to change operation type of Offset from Draw to Basic.  
• Respective project type title not changing on Canvas when selecting project type from New Project button has been fixed.  
• Grid on Canvas not fully displaying has been fixed.  
• Fixed an issue where clicking on ‘X’ or ‘Cancel’ on a screen causes design area to disappear from Canvas.

• Load type filtering – fixed an issue causing mat options to not display for a particular project when Load type filtering is enabled.

• Bluetooth connection prompt appearing even though the Bluetooth is ON has been resolved.

This Design Space for Desktop release (v9.46) includes backend improvements and the following features and fixes.  

 

Merge Sticker  

This new feature allows users to quickly join 2 or more objects into a single sticker (one of the selected objects must already be a sticker). Merge Sticker is available for all Canvas types. After a Merge action has been completed, the stickers will be placed under a “Sticker” parent layer in the Layers panel.  

 

Merge Sticker in Top Toolbar

Because Merge Sticker is accessed in the Shortcut Toolbar, but Shortcut Toolbar is not yet rolled out to all users, we’ve added Merge Sticker to the top toolbar.  

 

Added troubleshooting help to Machine Picker for Connection Failed states

We’ve added a new troubleshooting link which navigates users to help.cricut.com when the machine cannot connect.

Ability to remove machine from Machine Picker and Settings

This update adds the ability to remove a machine from the My Machine list in the machine picker. Simply right click, then select “Remove.”

 

Machine Picker – Hide Icon on Home

To help remove some confusion, the Machine Picker icon has been removed from the top navigation when on the Home page. The icon will become available when in the Canvas tab, and Machine Picker is always available in Settings.

 

Machine Picker – Recently Seen and “Other Machines”

This update sorts the list in the drop-down to show the last 4 recently connected/used machines. All other available machines appear in a new “Other Machines” section.

Update to Test Cut Screens

Many of the screens in the test cut flow have been updated to provide better instructions and explanations. For example:

Prepare for cut: Insert the sheet under the guides until it reaches the rollers. Then, press the flashing Load/Unload button. The machine will grasp, then measure the sheet.

Click Go: When you’re ready, click Go to begin cutting.

Cutting your decal: The machine takes a few seconds to confirm everything is in place.

 

Assembly Instructions Update

When assembly instructions appear after completing the cutting step of a project, a new video button will be displayed if an assembly video is available for that project. Clicking the button will open and begin playing the video.

 

Cricut Access Hub Update

If a member was offered and accepted a Cricut Access promotion, a new banner indicating the status of that promotion now appears in the Cricut Access hub.

 

Live Preview Update

In project flows that include Live Preview, it will open automatically when an object is placed on the Canvas. It can also be dragged and can be expanded as needed.

 

Merge Sticker

This new feature allows users to quickly join 2 or more objects into a single sticker (one of the selected objects must already be a sticker). Merge Sticker is available for all Canvas types.

The Cricut Chatbot has been moved out of the Help menu and into its own position in the top bar.

 

New user project modal from New Project Button

The new project modal for new users will now appear when the user clicks on the New Project button from the Home screen.

 

Machine name shown in top bar

With this update we’ll now show the name of the machine that is connected next to the icon in the top navigation bar. If no machine is registered to the account, we’ll show “Set Up Machine” instead.

Guided project flow picker on Canvas

With this update, when the New Project button on the Canvas is clicked, a menu of guided project flows will appear. If the Canvas is empty, your new project selection will be loaded. If there is content on the Canvas when the new project is selected, Design Space will ask if you wish to save / replace / cancel.

 

Cardstock Cutouts guided project flow

Enhance your cardstock project creation with this new guided project flow! Choose a popular cardstock project type from the menu, choose a size, then see your selections represented in a design area on the Canvas. Then, choose images or shapes, insert text, or apply templates from the left panel to start creating your design.

 

Templates Panel update

The Templates panel displays content that has been optimized for the type of guided project you have selected (i.e., Vinyl Decal, Folded Card, Iron-On T-shirt). With this update, the templates displayed for a particular guided project flow will appear in the panel at the right aspect ratio based on the type and size of project you have selected.

Project Type Material Selection

Material selection is even easier! Design Space will display Compatible materials based on the project type a user selects (i.e., Vinyl Decal, Iron-On T-Shirt, etc.) — up to 12 materials will be displayed on the “Compatible” tab. To view others, select “Browse All materials.”

 

Load Type Dialog update

Design Space already filters out load type options based on the machine model one is using and the project’s operations. Along with a fresh new look and clarified descriptions of each load type, the dialog modal has been optimized to show only those options that make sense based on the Project Type that has been chosen. For example, a Folded Card project flow cuts out the entire card base, so Card Mat does not make sense as a Load Type option.

 

Centered Design Area

With this update, the Design Area in guided project flows will be centered on the Canvas instead of anchored to the top left of the Canvas with grids and rulers on by default.

 

Operation filtering by Project Type

Just like the updates for Material selection and Load Type options, the Operation menu will now be simplified to show only those Operations that are compatible with the selected Project Type. For example, Vinyl Decal projects only require Cut operations. For Folded Cards & Cardstock Cutouts, Cut and Draw operations are enabled. If a project happens to contain an operation that is not supported by the selected Project Type, a warning message will be displayed.

Live Preview Update

This update moves the Live Preview option from the left rail to a panel on the right side of the Canvas. Toggle between Preview and Layers as needed while you create your design!

 

Images Panel Ribbons Update

This update to the Images panel optimizes image searching based on the project flow you have chosen. The For You, Bookmarked, etc., ribbons will update to show results for your search terms. When “See all” is clicked, users will see more images of that type (for you, bookmarked, etc.) and provide filters for further refining your search. If using the “Blank Canvas” option, users will have the options for “Advanced Search” near the bottom of the panel.

If using one of the guided flows, such as Vinyl Decal or Iron-On T-Shirt, image search is optimized with results that work well for that project type. “Advanced Search” not available through these guided flows; instead, use filters to further refine your search as needed. If you need to use “Advanced Search,” choose “Blank Canvas” instead.

 

Featured Fonts Label by Project Type

This update now filters featured fonts so the ones you see are optimal for the project flow you have chosen (i.e., Vinyl Decal, Iron-On T-Shirt, etc.). The project type will be displayed above the list of featured fonts as well.

 

Assembly Instructions Update

With this update, after completing the cutting for a project, assembly instructions will automatically appear if they are available for that project.

Folded Cards Guided Flow — Sizing & Design Area

This new guided flow provides guidance for users who wish to create a greeting card from scratch. Choose an occasion and a size, then see your selections represented in a design area on the Canvas, automatically populated with a card base and fold (score) line. Then, choose a template from the templates panel to start creating your design.

Color Sync Panel Improvements

This feature renames Color Sync to “Material Colors,” and displays “Material Color 1,” etc., instead of hex color codes to help make the correlation between these colors and the actual material that will be used when cutting the project.

Note: If desired, you can still assign a hex color code to any layer through the Operation tool in the Edit bar or panel.

 

Spell Check

Spell check functionality has now been added to the Design Space Canvas! This functionality automatically checks all words in a text box against the dictionary to determine whether they are spelled correctly.

Font style buttons – vertical stacking

This update switches the font style button view from a horizontal scroll to a vertical scroll so you can see more of the styles at once, making it easier to see any that are already selected. Click “View Less” or “View All” as needed.

Hide left rail by default

The left panel on the Home page will now be collapsed by default when you open Design Space. Simply an icon on the left panel to access the feature, or click the double arrow at the bottom of the panel to expand it.

 

Educational “hot spot” for contextual tools

To help existing users navigate the new toolbars and find their favorite tools, this hotspot with information will be present when entering the Canvas and seeing the new toolbars for the first time.

 

Bounding box update

We’ve updated the look of the bounding box users see when an object is selected on the Canvas. This will help users to handle extremely small objects on the Canvas, and will help them realize there are possibilities on the bounding box beyond the corner handles.

Machine family filtering on personalized tile boxes

When viewing the Home page, content in the personalized tile boxes (Your Bookmarks, Images for You, etc.) will be filtered to include only images and projects that are compatible with the selected machine.

 

Fixed field issues

This release:

• Fixed an issue causing Hide Contour functionality to automatically apply Cut off and on while zooming in and out.
• Unwanted down arrow being visible after clicking Combine has been fixed.
• Issue of colors of deleted and hidden images showing in Material Colors has been fixed.
• Fixed an issue causing Pattern scale slider position to not update when we manually enter the scale value.
• Fixed an issue where clicking Kiss Cut and Back option repeatedly creates a duplicate layer of text.
• Fixed an issue causing Print Then Cut warning to not display properly for Text after changing the Print Then Cut paper size.
• Fixed an issue where increasing initial Pattern Scale caused it to zoom in more than expected.

• Filters not cleared after reloading Canvas page has been fixed.
• Fixed issued causing Font panel to not load all Cricut fonts after applying system font to text and navigating to Recent tab.
• Issue of Firmware update failure with USB Connected Maker 4 has been fixed.
• Getting infinite spinner on “Cut Progress” screen after reconnecting the machine has been resolved.
• Resolved an issue where machine was getting disconnected while cutting multiple mats when two Design Space windows were open.
• Fixed an issue causing the vertical scroll bar to scroll up and down automatically when clicked in the Cricut Contributing Artist page

Auto-detect and connect

With this improvement we can automatically detect cutting machines that are either broadcasting via Bluetooth or plugged in via USB cable and automatically show them to a user to connect. This improvement will be added to the New Product setup flow to help users get connected more easily.
