Workspace requirements
- Use the machine indoors only, in dry locations. Do not use in or near water.
- Place the machine on a strong, flat, level and stable surface.
- Make sure your workspace has enough space in the front and back of the machine to allow the cutting mat to move through the machine freely.
- Only plug the power adapter into a compatible wall outlet.
- Position the power cord so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be tripped over, snagged or pulled on unintentionally.
Computer and mobile device requirements
Cricut Maker 5 is used with Design Space on a compatible computer or mobile device. Because minimum device requirements can change as Design Space is updated, check the current requirements before setup. For the best experience keep your operating system and Design Space app up to date.

Internet and offline use
Plan to stay connected to the internet whenever you use Design Space. An internet connection is required to install and sign in to Design Space, set up products, update firmware, search for content, upload images and use Print then Cut
What works offline?
Connect to the internet first to sign in and download or save the content you’ll need.
- Design Space for Desktop (Windows/Mac): Save projects to your computer and download images and Cricut fonts to design, edit, and cut offline.
- Design Space for iOS: Download images and Cricut fonts to design and cut offline. Because projects can only be saved to the cloud, you’ll need an internet connection to save your work.
- Design Space for Android: Offline use is not supported.

*Note: While Cricut Maker 5 can cut some thicker materials, we do not guarantee that every material up to 1/8 in (3 mm) can be cut. A material’s thickness alone does not determine whether it can be cut. Density, rigidity, and the pressure required to cut it also affects compatibility. Always choose a Design Space material setting that is compatible with the installed tool and intended operation and test a small area first. Some materials, including acrylic blanks, may be compatible with engraving but not cutting.
Power and connection accessories
- Use only a compatible Cricut Maker 5 power adapter.
- Use the included USB-C to USB-C cable, or another USB-C cable that supports data transfer. Charge-only cables will not work as they cannot transfer project data.
- If your computer does not have a USB-C port, use a compatible data adapter. For the most reliable connection when using USB, connect directly to your computer instead of using an unpowered USB hub
