Troubleshoot Bluetooth (BLE), USB, setup, and unexpected disconnection issues with Cricut Maker 5.
Select the option below that matches the Cricut Maker 5 connection issue you are experiencing. After trying each step, reopen the Design Space machine picker and try connecting Cricut Maker 5 again.
Cricut Maker 5 does not appear in the machine picker
- Confirm that the Cricut power adapter is securely connected to the machine and wall outlet, and that the indicator light is on and solid.
- Make sure the computer or mobile device is within 10–15 ft (3 - 4.6 m) of the machine.
- On your computer or mobile device, turn Bluetooth off and back on.
- Confirm Design Space has permission to use Bluetooth or nearby devices. To check this, open your device's privacy and security settings, select Bluetooth, then find Design Space in the list of apps and ensure it has the necessary permission.
- Close Design Space on other computers, phones, or tablets that may already be connected.
- Quit Design Space completely, reopen it, and choose Cricut Maker 5 in the machine picker.
- Disconnect Cricut Maker 5 from power for 30 seconds, reconnect it, and try again.
Important: Do not pair Cricut Maker 5 in your device’s Bluetooth settings. Connect by selecting Cricut Maker 5 in the Design Space machine picker.
Bluetooth connects, then disconnects
- Try moving your device closer to the machine and make sure there aren’t any big metal objects or other wireless devices between them.
- Keep Design Space open during your project and make sure your device doesn’t fall asleep.
- Close any other Design Space sessions that might try to connect to your machine at the same time.
- If the issue persists, restart both your device and your Cricut Maker 5.
- Check for and install any updates to Design Space or your device’s operating system; pending updates may include fixes or component updates that will help!
- If disconnection only happens with one device, try using a different supported device to see if the issue is with the machine or your original device.
Note: Ensure that other Bluetooth operations (such as music streaming or using Bluetooth headphones for calls) are not in use on your device. These can interfere with the machine’s connection.
Design Space does not have Bluetooth permission
Most operating systems require you to allow permission for apps to use Bluetooth or locate nearby devices. If you receive a prompt to allow this permission, but deny it, you can update your choice in device settings.
| Platform | What to check |
| Windows | Turn on Bluetooth and allow Design Space access when Windows displays a permission prompt. Confirm airplane mode is off. |
| Mac | In System Settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth, allow Design Space to use Bluetooth. Reopen Design Space after changing permission. |
| iPhone or iPad | In Settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth, switch the toggle on allowing Design Space to use Bluetooth. Keep Bluetooth on and reopen the app. |
| Android | In Settings > Apps/Apps & Notifications > Design Space, tap Permissions and allow Bluetooth or Nearby devices. Some Android versions may also require location services for Bluetooth discovery. |
USB-C connection is not detected
- Confirm that you are using a Windows or Mac computer. USB-C machine control is not supported on mobile devices.
- Confirm that the Cricut power adapter is securely connected to the machine and wall outlet, and that the indicator light is on.
- Reconnect both ends of the cable firmly.
- Connect directly to another computer port, without an unpowered USB hub.
- Try another data-capable USB-C cable. *Charge-only cables cannot transfer project data.
- Restart the computer and reopen Design Space.
- If available, try connecting via Bluetooth. If Bluetooth connection works, the issue is likely the cable, adapter, port, or computer configuration.
*Note: Some USB-C cables are made for charging a device only; they can’t transfer any data. If you want to transfer data, such as sending a project to the machine, make sure you’re using a cable that is capable of data transfer.
New product setup or firmware update will not complete
- Use a stable internet connection and keep the computer or mobile device awake during the update.
- Keep Cricut Maker 5 connected to power throughout the update.
- Close other Design Space windows or apps.
- Restart Design Space and select Cricut Maker 5 in New Product Setup.
- If connected by Bluetooth when experiencing issues, try a direct USB connection on a Windows or Mac computer.
- Do not unplug the machine while Design Space says firmware is being installed. This can take several minutes to complete.
The machine is connected to another device
Only one active Design Space session at a time can control Cricut Maker 5. Close other windows/instances of Design Space on other devices, wait a few seconds, and select the machine again on the device you want to use.
