FAQ
What is Value Vinyl?
Cricut is excited to offer a line of Value Vinyl designed specifically for our members who enjoy shopping online and getting great deals. By designing a product line JUST for online sales, selling in bulk, having minimal packaging, etc., we were able to realize cost savings and pass them on to you. And because this is Cricut material, we stand behind it just like we do with our other products.
Cricut Value Vinyl has a clear liner with no grid, is slightly thinner than Premium Vinyl, but continues to provide a cutting and project experience that meets our high standards.
This is a separate product line, designed for online sale only and does not impact the Cricut products you know and love today.
What you need
- Cricut smart cutting machine
- Design Space software on computer or mobile device
- Standard Grip Machine Mat
- Premium or Performance Fine-Point Blade and Housing
- Cricut Value Vinyl
- Weeder
- Cricut Transfer Tape*
- Burnishing tool, such as a Scraper
*Transfer Tape works for most vinyl types. Use Strong Grip Transfer Tape for vinyl with a textured finish, like Shimmer Vinyl. Strong Grip Transfer Tape is too strong for other vinyl types.
Design, cut, and weed
- Place vinyl (clear liner side down) onto Cricut Standard Grip cutting mat.
- Create or select a project in Design Space and select Make It.
- Load the mat into the machine.
- Press the Go button and watch the magic happen!
- When the cut is complete, press the unload button.
- Use a weeder to remove excess vinyl from in and around your design, leaving design on the clear liner.
Apply Transfer Tape
Note: Use regular Transfer Tape or Value Transfer Tape for Cricut Value Vinyl. Strong Grip Vinyl is too strong for Cricut Value Vinyl.
-
Peel liner from Transfer Tape. (Or for Linerless Transfer Tape cut a piece of transfer tape from the roll.)
-
Carefully attach a small area of Transfer Tape to your design. This can either be the center or one end of your design.
-
Use a Scraper to burnish Transfer Tape onto your design, working outward from where you attached the small area.
Apply to project surface
- Make sure project surface is clean and dry.
- Peel Value Vinyl’s clear liner away from Transfer Tape and your cut out design.
- If your cut out vinyl doesn't separate from the liner, simply burnish liner back onto the vinyl and peel away again.
- To transfer your design to the project surface carefully follow these steps:
- Attach a small area of design onto your surface. This can either be the center or one end of your design.
- Use a Scraper to burnish design onto your surface, working outward from where you attached the small area.
- Peel Transfer Tape away from design.
- Work carefully. If vinyl peels up with Transfer Tape, simply burnish Transfer Tape and vinyl back down to the project surface and peel away again.
- For best results, peel Transfer Tape at an acute angle.
FAQ
What is the difference between Cricut Value Vinyl and Cricut Premium Vinyl?
While Cricut Value Vinyl meets Cricut high standards, we’ve made a few adjustments in order to offer you some cost savings: the liner is clear with no printed grid, the vinyl material is a little thinner, but just as great as other Cricut Vinyl products.
Does this vinyl need to be put on a mat?
Yes. This material can be used with our Standard Grip machine mats. It can be cut down to be used with Cricut Joy and Cricut Joy Xtra mats as well.
How do I know which side goes on the mat?
As a rule, the clear plastic liner side goes down on the mat. Inspect the two sides of the material; the brighter, bolder side is likely the cut side and should face up. However, on some colors, like white, it can be hard to tell. To make sure, peel back a small corner and you will see one side is the thin vinyl/iron-on material, and one side is a clear plastic layer. The clear plastic layer is the liner, and that is the side that goes down on the mat.
What cut setting should I use for this material?
Cricut Value materials have their own specific cut settings in Design Space. Just search for “Value,” then select the setting for your specific material. The cut settings are very similar to the settings for Premium Vinyl or Everyday Iron-on and the cut experience will also be very similar.
Which Cricut cutting machines does Value Vinyl work with?
All our cutting machines work with Cricut Value Vinyl! Value Vinyl is 12 in (30.5 cm) wide but can be cut down to work with smaller machines like Cricut Joy and Cricut Joy Xtra.
Which blade should I use to cut this material?
The standard blade for your machine will work great for Cricut Value Vinyl:
- Premium Fine-Point Blade for Cricut Explore and Cricut Maker machines
- Cricut Joy Blade for Cricut Joy and Cricut Joy Xtra
- Performance Point Blade for Cricut Venture
Is Value Vinyl permanent or removable?
This material is permanent and designed to be used for applications that get wet or are outdoors.
Can I buy Value Vinyl in a retail store? Where can I buy it locally?
Cricut Value Vinyl is sold online only, which helps us offer such low prices. For example, there is no retail packaging required; we can use just simple bags or labels.
Why is there no label on my roll of material?
Great question! To give you the best price and to minimize waste, rolls of Cricut Value Vinyl come with minimal packaging; just a simple black and white label. * This label is not only removable but is reusable to close the roll after you cut off some material. Similarly, if you ordered 12 in x 12 in (30.5 cm x 30.5 cm) sheets of Value Vinyl, those come in a plain envelope with a black and white label.
*Note: Packaging may change in the future, but it will still be minimal so we can reduce waste and pass those cost savings on to our members.
