Follow the instructions below to cut and apply Cricut Value Iron-On.
What is Value Iron-on?
Cricut is excited to introduce a line of Iron-on designed specifically for our members who enjoy shopping online and getting great deals.
Cricut Value Iron-on is slightly thinner than other iron-on material, but still provides a quality cutting and project experience that meets our high standards.
This is a separate product line designed for online sale only, and does not impact the Cricut products you know and love today.
What you need
- Cricut cutting machine
- Design Space software on computer or mobile device
- Cricut Heat Guide or Cricut Heat app (for Cricut EasyPress 3 and Cricut Hat Press)
- StandardGrip Machine Mat
- Premium or Performance Fine-Point Blade and Housing
- Cricut Value Iron-On
- Weeder
- Cricut Autopress, Cricut EasyPress, Cricut Hat press, heat press, or household iron
- Cricut Pressing Mat or Cricut Hat Pressing form
- Iron-On Protective Sheet (optional)
- Heat Resistant Tape (optional)
- Base material
Preparation
- Pre-wash fabric base materials without fabric softener to pre-shrink and remove chemicals that may prohibit strong adhesion.
- Recommended: To verify cut setting, perform a test cut using a small basic shape.
- Recommended: To verify application setting, apply test cut in an inconspicuous area on the base material.
- Find your pressing surface. If it’s firm, flat, and around waist high, you’re golden. Be sure to avoid flimsy ironing boards.
Design, cut, and weed
Note: Value Iron-On can be used in multi-layer designs. It can be applied on top of other Value Iron-On, or you can use it as base layers for other types of Iron-On. Keep this in mind as you create your design.
- Select and size your design in the software. Be sure to Mirror your mats in Design Space before cutting.
- Select Value Iron-On from the list of materials.
- If using a Cricut Explore Air 2 or older machine, turn Smart Set Dial to Custom.
- Place Iron-on sheet, liner side down, onto Cricut StandardGrip cutting mat.
- Load it into the machine and cut your design.
- When the cut is complete, weed your image.
Apply
Note: For precise time and temperature settings for your project, always refer to our online Heat Guide or Cricut Heat app (for Cricut EasyPress 3 and Cricut Hat Press). Depending on your base material and heat-transfer material choice, settings will be unique for every project.
- Preheat base material as instructed in our Heat Guide or Cricut Heat app (for Cricut EasyPress 3 and Cricut Hat Press).
- Place the cut design on the base material with the shiny liner side up. Apply heat as instructed (see Heat Guide or Cricut Heat app).
- Slowly remove liner when cool to the touch.
Tip: In most cases, the liner adhesive will hold your design in place during transfer. However, if needed (as when using Cricut Hat Press or Cricut EasyPress Mini), use Heat Resistant Tape to secure your design in place.
Note: If using a household iron, use the Cotton/Linen setting (generally the highest temperature setting). Make sure the steam setting is OFF. Preheat the application area of your base material for 10-15 seconds. Place the weeded image, liner side up, onto the preheated material. Apply medium pressure with the iron for 25-30 seconds. Flip the material over and apply medium pressure with the iron to the back of the material for an additional 25-30 seconds. Use a cool peel to remove the liner.
Care
- Wait 24 hours before washing embellished item.
- For longest life, wash and dry the embellished item inside-out.
- If areas of Iron-On material lift after washing, simply follow the complete application instructions to reapply.
FAQ
What is the difference between Cricut Value Iron-On and other Cricut iron-on material?
While Cricut Value Iron-On meets Cricut’s high standards, we’ve made a few adjustments in order to offer you some cost savings: the material is a little thinner but just as great as other Cricut iron-on products. We’ve also minimized the packaging in order to pass those savings on to you.
Does this iron-on need to be put on a mat?
Yes. This material can be used with any of our StandardGrip machine mats. It can be cut down to be used with Cricut Joy and Cricut Joy Xtra mats as well.
How do I know which side is the side that goes on a mat?
As a rule, the clear plastic liner side goes down on the mat. Inspect the two sides of the material; the brighter, bolder side is likely the cut side and should face up. However, on some colors, like white, it can be hard to tell. To make sure, peel back a small corner and you will see one side is the thin iron-on material, and one side is a clear plastic layer. The clear plastic layer is the liner, and that is the side that goes down on the mat.
What cut setting should I use for this material?
Cricut Value Iron-On has its own cut setting in Design Space. Just search for “Value,” then select the setting for your specific material.
Which Cricut cutting machines does Value Iron-On work with?
All our cutting machines work with Cricut Value Iron-On! Value Iron-On is sold 12 in (30.5 cm) wide but can be cut down to work with smaller machines like Cricut Joy and Cricut Joy Xtra.
Which blade should I use to cut this material?
The standard blade for your machine will work great for Cricut Value Iron-On.
- Premium Fine-Point Blade for Cricut Explore and Cricut Maker machines
- Cricut Joy Blade for Cricut Joy and Cricut Joy Xtra
- Performance Point Blade for Cricut Venture
Can I layer Value Iron-On with other types of Cricut Iron-On?
Value Iron-On can be used in multi-layer designs. It can be applied on top of other Value Iron-On and Everyday Iron-On, or you can use it as a base layer for other types of iron-on. For the best experience, keep layered (stacked) designs to 4 layers or fewer.
Note: Do not layer on top of any specialty iron-on material, such as Holographic, Holographic Sparkle, Foil, Glitter, Glitter Mesh, or flocked iron-on. The material may seem to iron-on fine, but when washed, the material on top of these may begin to peel away. In a layered design, specialty iron-on should be the top layer only. SportFlex Iron-On should only be layered with other SportFlex Iron-On.
Can I buy Value Iron-On in a retail store? Where can buy it locally?
Cricut Value Iron-On is sold online only, which helps us offer such low prices. For example, there is no retail packaging required; we can use just simple bags or labels.
Why is there no label on my roll of material?
Great question! To give you the best price and to minimize waste, rolls of Cricut Value Iron-On come with minimal packaging; just a simple label.* This label is not only removable, but is reusable to close the roll after you cut off some material. Similarly, 12 in x 12 in (30.5 cm x 30.5 cm) sheets of Value Iron-On come in a plain envelope with a simple label.
*Note: Packaging may change in the future, but it will still be minimal so we can reduce waste and pass those cost savings on to our members.
