Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets
Select a Cricut blank for step-by-step instructions with Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets.
What you need
- Cricut smart cutting machine
- Design Space on Windows/Mac computer or iOS/Android mobile device
- Cricut Heat Guide or Cricut Heat app (for Cricut EasyPress 3)
- Standard Grip Machine Mat
- Cricut heat press (Cricut EasyPress, Cricut EasyPress 2, Cricut EasyPress 3, Cricut EasyPress Mini, Cricut Autopress)
- Cricut EasyPress Mat or Cricut Pressing Mat
- Cricut Infusible Ink Compatible blank (apparel, wine bag, cosmetic bag, tote, pillow cover)
- Infusible Ink Transfer Sheet
- Butcher paper
- Cardstock (80 lb.), white (color cardstock not recommended)
- Lint roller
- Scissors
- Heat Resistant Tape (if using Cricut EasyPress Mini)
- Tweezers
Tips before you begin
- Before handling Infusible Ink materials, be sure that your hands are dry and free of any oils or lotions.
- When you begin to prep your blank for application, it's a good time to turn on your Cricut heat press and set the recommended time and temperatures for your project. For precise temperature, time, and pressure settings for your project, always refer to the Cricut Heat Guide or Cricut Heat app (for Cricut EasyPress 3 and Cricut Hat Press).
- Baby bodysuits: When applying designs to baby bodysuit blanks, place small Cricut EasyPress Mat covered with cardstock inside the bodysuit. This elevates the application area above the seams so the heat plate can evenly distribute heat to your design. If Cricut EasyPress Mat used inside your blank (i.e. totes, baby bodysuits) is smaller than the heat plate, we recommend using an additional mat under the blank to protect your work surface.
- Pillow Covers, wine bags, and cosmetic bags: Given the seam allowance inside these blanks, we do not recommend pressing a design that comes right up to the seam or edge. Even if you place cardstock on top of the seam allowance inside the cover, it can still cause enough unevenness to affect the transfer. Make sure to size your design with this in mind.
- Never reuse butcher paper for another project - it is there to protect your products by capturing stray transfer, which could transfer to another blank, heat plate, or pressing mat if you reuse it for another project.
- After pressing your project, if part of the transfer sheet design separates from the liner and remains on the blank, remove with tweezers. Do not remove it using your fingers as this could cause unwanted effects like ghosting or marbling.
- Projects using Cricut EasyPress Mini should be secured to your blank using Heat Resistant Tape. For projects with Cricut Hat Press, use Strong Heat Resistant Tape.
Instructions
Step 1: Cut
- Place Infusible Ink Transfer Sheet onto Standard Grip Mat, liner side down.
- In Design Space, create and size your design to fit on your blank.
- Be sure to Mirror your design.
- Select Infusible Ink Transfer Sheet from the list of materials. To do this, first select Browse all materials, then search "Infusible Ink Transfer Sheet". If using a Cricut Explore Air 2 (or older), turn the dial to "Custom" first.
- Load mat and blade into machine, then press Go.
Step 2: Weed
- Remove cut design from mat and trim away unused area of sheet.
- Gently roll cut design so cut lines separate and are more visible. "Cracking" the cut like this makes it easier to grasp and remove excess material from in and around your design.
- Use your fingers or tweezers to carefully remove negative pieces from in and around your design, leaving design on liner.
- Trim clear liner, so it does not extend beyond the edge of your Cricut heat press heat plate.
Step 3: Prep the blank
- Place blank on top of Cricut EasyPress mat or Cricut Pressing Mat.
- Position sheet of cardstock inside of blank to protect your mat and project.
- When using a tote bag, place cardstock on top of pressing mat, then place both INSIDE the tote bag.
- Do not skip this step: Use a fresh adhesive to lint-roll the entire surface. Even minuscule debris or fibers may create imperfections in the final transfer.
- Cover blank with butcher paper. Butcher paper sheet must be larger than the heat plate.
- Do not skip this step: Preheat application area to remove moisture and wrinkles that result in unwanted effects. Follow instructions in Cricut Heat Guide for time, temperature, and pressure settings.
- Remove butcher paper and let blank cool completely.
Step 4: Apply
- Place cut design face down on blank, clear liner on top.
- Cover design with butcher paper larger than the heat plate of your press.
- Follow the prompts in the Cricut Heat Guide or Cricut Heat app to apply heat to your project.
Important: Avoid seams when positioning heat plate on your design+blank. Additionally, do not slide the press or move your hands (if using a Cricut EasyPress model) while pressing. However, if using Cricut EasyPress Mini, secure the design in place with Heat Resistant tape and press while continually moving Cricut EasyPress Mini over the design, applying light pressure.
- When time is up, lift press slowly. Try not to move the stack, including butcher paper.
- Let your project cool. Once cool, slowly remove butcher paper, then slowly remove the liner with design. If pieces of the transfer sheet remain on the blank, use tweezers – not your fingers – to remove them.
Step 5: Care
- Machine wash inside out with cold water and mild detergent
- Tumble dry low or line dry
- Do not use fabric softener, dryer sheets, or bleach
