Cricut Genuine Leather: Cutting Instructions

Cricut Genuine Leather can be cut with Cricut Maker, Cricut Explore, and Cricut Venture machines. Select a tab below to view information and recommendations for cutting with each machine.

Tip: For best results cutting Cricut Genuine Leather use a clean cutting mat and a sharp blade.

Note: These instructions do not apply to garment and tooling leathers, which can only be cut with Cricut Maker machines. Select these links to find instructions for garment and tooling leather.

  1. Place Cricut Genuine Leather face down onto clean Cricut StrongGrip (purple) cutting mat.
  2. Create a firm bond between the leather and the cutting mat by burnishing with a scraper or rolling a brayer over the leather.
  3. Move star wheels all the way to the right.
  4. Select and size images in Cricut Design Space and load the mat into the machine.
  5. Select Browse All Materials and choose Genuine Leather. 
  6. Follow prompts in Cricut Design Space to complete the cut.
  7. Before unloading the mat, check the material to ensure it is cut all the way through.
  1. Place Cricut Genuine Leather face down onto clean Cricut StrongGrip (purple) cutting mat.

  4. Turn the Smart Set Dial to Custom. Then select Browse All Materials in Design Space and choose Genuine Leather. 
  5. Follow prompts in Cricut Design Space to complete the cut.
  6. Before unloading the mat, check the material to ensure it is cut all the way through.
  1. Place Cricut Genuine Leather face down onto clean Cricut Strong Grip Performance (purple) cutting mat.
  2. Create a firm bond between the leather and the cutting mat by burnishing with a scraper or rolling a brayer over the leather.
  3. Select and size images in Cricut Design Space and load the mat into the machine.
  4. Select Browse All Materials and choose Genuine Leather.
  5. Follow prompts in Design Space to complete the cut.
  6. Before unloading the mat, check the material to ensure it is cut all the way through.

Important: Results may vary. Always do a test cut to verify settings.
