Do I need Design Space to use the Cricut Maker 5?

How does the Cricut Maker 5 connect to Design Space?
It connects by Bluetooth (BLE) or USB-C cable to supported Windows or Mac computers, and by Bluetooth to supported iOS or Android mobile devices.
Where do I pair the machine?

No. Connect via Bluetooth when using iPhone, iPad, or Android. Connection via USB cable is supported on Windows and Mac computers only.

What is the maximum material thickness I can use?
The Cricut Maker 5 supports selected materials up to 1/8 in (3 mm) thick; some materials can be cut, and others are intended for engraving only. Compatibility also depends on density, stiffness, composition, tool, setting, and design. Click here for a list of compatible materials.
How wide can Cricut Maker 5 cut?
With compatible Smart Materials, the maximum cuttable width is 12 in (30.5 cm). On a 12 in (30.5 cm) machine mat, the maximum cuttable width is 11.5 in (29.2 cm).
How long can it cut without a mat?
A single project can be up to 12 ft (3.6 m) long on compatible Smart Vinyl and Smart Iron-On, and 11.2 in (28.4 cm) on Smart Paper. Design Space shows how much material is needed based on the size and layout of your design before loading.
Can I use Machine Mats?

Can I use tools from an earlier Cricut Maker?

No, similar looking one-piece tools may not be distinguishable to the machine. Make sure you install the tool that is indicated in Design Space, and always visually verify the icon/label on the top of the tool before pressing Go.
Can I engrave with Cricut Maker 5?

Loading and project behavior
What is Load & Go?
When Design Space is ready, press the flashing Go/Pause button once. Cricut Maker 5 loads and measures the mat or material, then starts the project automatically. There is no separate button press to start.
Can I pause a project?
Yes. You can press the Go/Pause button during the current operation to pause it, and press it again to resume. To cancel the project, use Design Space and unload only when prompted. Do not touch the mat or material until the machine ejects it.
Print Then Cut
Does Cricut Maker 5 support Print Then Cut?
Yes. Print the project from Design Space, place it on a mat so it matches the orientation shown in Design Space, and the machine will scan the printed sensor markings before cutting. How should I clean Cricut Maker 5?
Disconnect power first. Apply a small amount of glass cleaner or water to dampen a soft, lint-free cloth and wipe the exterior. Never spray cleaning solution directly onto the machine.
